Site Usage Counter – misleading?

SharePoint Hit can be defined as an “Attempt to browse to the SharePoint site” the actual visits to the site might differ from the no of hits. 

In SharePoint Site usage report is the only “Out of the Box” tool we have , we also can use SharePoint Designer 2007 to view the site usage data in More details.

Using SharePoint designer we will be able to find out total no of visits, Hits, Daily summary, weekly summary, monthly summary ect. Many More options are available and the following is the link which provides more information

Additionally it is also possible to Write a custom code using some of the Name spaces available in SharePoint to pull specific information needed.
